Outstanding MA Juniors

July was a busy month for the top MA junior players participating in 3 major national in international tournaments: USA Junior Nationals (Jul 3-7, CA), Pan Am Junior Championships (Jul 21-28, Mexico), and the 13th Maccabiah Games (Jul 21-23, Israel).  Medalists include:

Summer Vacation Badminton Camps and Regular Saturday Training

                Continue to develop your badminton skills this summer.  All through July and August, Boston Badminton offers 8 weeks of regular Saturday training and half or full day camps.

Four Outstanding Juniors from MA are new Recipients of the Northeast Region Judy Devlin Fund for Excellence in Badminton

The recipients include Alan Shekhtman U19 of Maugus  and Clayton Cayen U13 of Marblehead, who won every match they played during the 2013 Junior International Trials and are representing the US in the World and Pan Am (for Clayton) Junior Championships.  The two other recipients are: Nicole Frevold, U17 of Marblehead and Alex Cheng U19 of Boston Badminton, two strong medal contenders in the upcoming Junior Nationals.  We wish them the best in the upcoming national and international tournaments.

2013 Massachusetts Senior Games – Badminton; June 23 at Boston Badminton, Westborough, MA

Twenty four seniors participated in the badminton events this year.  The results are:
Men’s Singles:
Age 40-60  (6 entries):  Magnus Wnnemyr- Champion; Peter Smith – 2nd Place
Age 61-74 (4 entries): Alexander Sukher – Champion; Bland Addison – 2nd Place
Men’s Doubles:

More than 20 seniors will see action on the courts at Boston Badminton, Westborough to play at the 2013 Massachusetts Senior Games on Sunday, June 23 starting 9 am.

BOSTON BADMINTON TO HOST BAY STATE GAMES JUNE 28-30

The Bay State Games for badminton will begin at 5 pm on June 28 for singles and mixed doubles matches.  All remaining singles and mixed doubles matches will be played on June 29.  All doubles matches will be played on June 30.  B/C drop down format will be used this year to prevent sandbagging, with the hope that we will not see incidents similar to the Olympic WD fiasco nor A players playing B events.  Relative beginners now have their own D and E events, also using the D/E drop down format.  Thus, players of all levels from A to E have a chance to win medals and jackets.
