A Strong Push for Competitive Badminton in Massachusetts

 
Over 40 years ago, competitive badminton was very popular in Massachusetts and a number of Northeast players won World Titles.  Today, three Clubs are spearheading training in competitive badminton: Boston Badminton, Marblehead Youth Badminton and Maugus Club.  Together, players from these Clubs in Massachusetts bring in more medals than any of the East Coast states in Regional and National Tournaments.
 
In less than two years, the number of juniors training for competitive badminton in Boston Badminton and participating in regional and national tournaments has grown to over 20, thanks to the strong coaching staff led by Head Coach Andy Chong.  More than half of these players brought home medals from the two biggest NE Junior Tournaments recently held: Nov 10-12 Super Regional New England Junior Open (NEJO) and Sept 29-30 Regional CPBC Junior Championships (CPJC).  We congratulate these outstanding players and commend them for the hard training:

                On Jan 6, the Massachusetts Badminton Association will hold its first ever High School Team Championships in an effort to bring competitive badminton to MA high schools.  The final push is for  Northeast players to become competitive in the world stage.  To this end, Boston Badminton is a supporter of the Judy Devlin Fund for Excellence in Badminton with the hope of finding the next ‘Judy Devlin’ in the Northeast.
